Rules for the Wedding Speech
Getting married is a monumental event. It signifies a holy matrimony between man and woman; as it has been the tradition since the time of Adam and Eve. Marriage symbolizes the union of the bride and the groom as well as their families. This wonderful event is traditionalized by the wedding ceremony, where the bride and the groom make their vows to each other. These vows are the symbols of love that will make them husband and wife until death does them apart. Once the wedding ceremony is concluded and the rings are placed on each others hands; the groom kisses the bride. This is the conclusion of the wedding ceremony and then wedding reception begins.
The most important part about the wedding reception is the wedding speech that must be made. There are several rules that govern the wedding speech. There is etiquette on who should talk and what they should talk about. Of course, it should not be overtly formalized as a wedding is a joyous event and it shouldn’t be too formal and stuffy. However, some general rules of the society still apply to this occasion. In general, these rules should be adhered to in a wedding speech.
- The first person who should make the wedding speech is definitely the bride’s father. It is perhaps more difficult for the bride’s father then most people, since there is always a special bond between the father and his daughter. Although this bond can never be broken, still a wedding means a separation at the least. Thus, this situation is honored by allowing him to make the wedding speech. It is also thought of as perfectly natural for him to give an emotional speech.
- Once the father of the bride makes his wedding speech; then the second person to speak would be the father of the groom. It is a very proud moment for the groom’s father and the speech that he makes should be centered on thanking the guests for attending the wedding ceremony and he should also point out his best wishes for the newly wed couple.
- With interchanging orders; the best man of the groom and the bridesmaid of the bride can also make speeches. It is customary for them to express their sincere sentiments to the bride and the groom. In most speeches, some good and humorous moments that may have passed between the newly wed couple maybe talked about. However, it is considered very rude to talk about past relations of the bride or the groom, as this is considered a very bad manners.
- Sometimes the bride and the groom can also make a speech together or separately. Sometimes they won’t need to talk at all. It is dependent only on the mood of the ceremony.
