Wedding Speech Advice

A wedding ceremony will mark a wonderful time for all the people attending. It is a joyous time that marks a wonderful beginning for the bride and the groom.  However an important point that needs to be made is the fact that a marriage not only joins the bride and the groom; but it also joins their families as well.    Thus the wedding speech must be prepared carefully, so that it honors the wedding couple and their families at the same time.  Some advice that can be used is:

  1. Make sure that you do your preparation well.  The success formula for any speech is detailed preparation well in advance.  While preparing yourself make sure that you research about the persons that will be attending the ceremony such as the families of the wedding couple.
  2. Make sure that you are aware of the order in which you will be giving your speech.  It is important that you will prepare your speech accordingly.
  3. Also try to get some advice from the bride and the groom.  They might have some topics that they would want you to speak about.
  4. When preparing your speech keep it short and simple.  Complex speeches with paradoxes and double meanings may be interesting from a philosophical point of view; but these types of speeches will not be appropriate for a joyous occasion like a wedding.
  5. Make sure that your speech has a formal and logical structure to it.  Start with a short introduction of yourself.  Then make sure that you stress the importance of the wedding ceremony that took place.
  6. In your speech make sure that you reserve a large spot for the bride and the groom.  Express the fact that they are appropriate for each other and also make sure that you stress things like how they met each other and how they decided to marry etc.  Thus also make sure that you send a positive note of interest to the wedding couple’s respective parents.
  7. Make sure that you don’t have a negative attitude in your wedding speech.  This is a joyous time and thus you should be able to convey a positive message and not a negative message.
  8. Never put politics in your wedding speech.  Also try to stay away from controversial issues.  Make sure that you do not offend anyone in your speech.
  9. Try to add some elements of humor to your wedding speech.  It will help lower the anxiety levels of people attending the wedding ceremony.
  10. Make sure that you are not too formal in your speech.  Try to use a conversational tone and don’t condescend anyone or be arrogant in your speech.
